Direct detection of microbial DNA from tissues: DNA is isolated from specimen and amplified by conventional PCR using a battery of broad-range primers dependent on the test type requested. Amplified products are sequenced and the organism(s) identified on the basis of sequence data.

Fresh frozen tissue specimen, fresh samples should by submitted frozen on dry ice. For solid tissue, please note UW does not process more than 1 cubic cm. Submit only the portion of the specimen with the greatest potential. Fresh speciemns are reccommended when possible, paraffin embedded tissues may be accepcted when fresh tissue is not available.

Whole blood, respiratory specimens, genitourinary specimens, serum and plasma.Tissues floating in excess formalin are not acceptable.
