Useful For
Direct detection of microbial DNA.
DNA is isolated from specimen and amplified by conventional PCR using a battery of broad-range primers dependent on the test type requested. Amplified products are sequenced and the organism(s) identified on the basis of sequence data.

Specimen Collection and Handling
Fresh tissues and fluids are preferred to fixed material. Tissue or fluid placed in a sterile, DNA-free container is optimal for testing.
Acceptable Specimen Sources/Types are: CSF, Non-Blood Body Fluids (Including Bone Marrow), BAL (bronchoalveolar lavage), Fresh Tissue, Paraffin Embedded Tissue Block, E-Swabs acceptable but not preferred.
Paraffin Blocks should be shipped ambient, all other specimens should be shipped to MCL-Warde Laboratory frozen.
