This orderable does not indicate that ThyroSeq testing was ordered or that it will be performed. Therefore, it is not associated with any lab results. It only indicates that a specimen hold protocol has been initated by the surgical team for potential ThyroSeq reflexive testing.

Spectrum Pathologists will reflexively order ThyroSeq testing, when clinically indicated, at time of review and signout of the in-house FNA CYTOLOGY (NONGY) order.

PLEASE NOTE: A completed and signed ThyroSeq testing requisition is also required to be submitted with the specimen. These forms are unique to the requesting clinical practice and are provided to these facility care teams directly from their SonicHealth Care/ThyroSeq account representative.

Specimen Collection and Handling

  1. Label the ThyroSeq vial with the patient's name, DOB, and specimen site using labels from the test requisition form. Ensure tube is labeled with at least two unique patient identifiers.
  2. Place a full SECOND FNA pass into the ThyroSeqPreserve solution vial.
  3. In addition, for better representation of large-size nodules, wash the needle from ALL other passes taken from the nodule and express them into the SAME ThyroSeq vial. However, be sure that the solution is not retained in the needle or syringe and the final volume in the vial remains the same.
  4. After collection, secure the tube cap and invert several times to mix the collected sample then place the ThyroSeq tube into the dark baggie.
  5. Place the ThyroSeq Hold EPIC specimen label on the dark baggie containing the thyroSeq specimen vial and send along with the NONGY cytology specimen container to NorDx lab.
