Specimen Collection and Handling
1. Obtain fresh vaginal secretions collected on a swab and immersed immediately in a test tube containing 1-2 ml of normal saline at room temperature OR 10 mL random urine in sterile container.
2. Maintain at ambient temperature.
3. Deliver promptly to the laboratory.

Clinical Significance
Diagnosis of Trichomoniasis is confirmed when parasites are found in the urinary sediments of both males and females.
Sediments of vaginal washes or swabbings have also been used to isolate the organism.
