Specimen Collection and Handling
1. Draw specimen 30 minutes prior to next scheduled dose.
2. Spin specimen, separate from clot and send frozen.
3. Specimens containing additional antibiotics should be stored frozen if any delay in analysis or more than 4 hours in transport time is anticipated.
Failure to freeze specimen containing additional antibiotics may result in falsely low tobramycin levels due to in vitro inactivation.
