Analytic time for send out tests is the time it will take to perform testing once it has arrived at the performing reference lab. Please add 1 to 2 days from time of collection to allow for receipt at NorDx central lab and shipment of specimen, add another day if specimen is collected on the day before a weekend or holiday.

Lavender Top Tube (EDTA) – Use transport tube (LabCorp N° 33314) containing 75 mg ascorbic acid required prior to transport/ storage. See Specimen Collection and Handling.

10 mL EDTA/ascorbic acid mixture (see Collection below)

Specimen Collection and Handling

1. Collect 3 EDTA tubes (4 mL each)

2. Invert tubes at least ten times immediately following collection to ensure thoroughly mixed. 3. Transfer 10 mL whole blood to transport tube containing 75 mg ascorbic acid. 4. Thoroughly mix by inverting whole blood/ascorbic acid mixture ten times. 5. Sample collection practices that prevent blood clotting and oxidation of serotonin are imperative. 6. Discontinue monoamine oxidase inhibitor drugs for at least one week prior to sampling.

To Process:

1. Freeze transport tube immediately and send entire collection to the laboratory.

2. Send sample frozen on dry ice.
