Test Code RBCGP RAPID BLOOD CULTURE IDENTIFICATION (GRAM POSITIVE) REFLEX TEST ONLY

Performing Laboratory

NorDx Laboratories

Useful For

To provide rapid identification of gram positive organisms growing in a blood culture, in advance of phenotypical identification and susceptibility testing.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A RELEX TEST ONLY

Method Name

Verigene Multiplex Film Array

Reference Values

Detected or Not detected for the analyzed targets.

Organisms included in assay: Staphylococcus spp.; S. aureus; S. epidermidis; S. lugdunensis; Listeria spp.; Enterococcus faecalis; Enterococcus faecium; Streptococcus spp.; S. agalactiae; S. anginosus group; S. pneumoniae; S. pyogenes. Resistance markers included in assay: mecA; VanA; VanB.

Limitations:

1. In mixed cultures containing gram positive bacteria and other organisms, the test may not identify all detectable organisms in the specimen, depending on the concentration of each target present.

2. In mixed growth, the test does not specifically attribute van-mediated vancomycin resistance to either E. faecalis or E. faecium, or mecA methicillin resistance to either S. aureus or S. epidermidis.

Days and Times Test Performed

Sunday through Saturday
