Useful For

This high sensitivity flow cytometric assay is used in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH).

PNH is an acquired hematopoietic stem cell disorder characterized by chronic hemolysis, venous thrombosis, and bone marrow failure.  Includes flow cytometric analysis of RBCs and WBCs using gating antibodies CD45, CD15, CD64, CD235a; GPI-linked antibodies CD59, CD14, CD24; as well as Fluorescent Aerolysin (FLAER).

Flow Cytometry

This assay is a lab developed test established by the NorDx Flow Cytometry Laboratory. This laboratory is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) as qualified to perform high complexity clinical laboratory testing. This test is used for clinical purposes. It should not be regarded as investigational or for research.

Clinical Significance

Testing is indicated for:

  • individuals with PNH symptoms (intra-vascular hemolysis or thrombosis)
  • individuals who lack PNH symptoms but have bone marrow failure diseases such as aplastic anemia, refractory anemia, or MDS
  • individuals being treated for PNH

This test is usually ordered in conjunction with a physician interpretation. The physician professional component will be billed separately by the consulting physician.
