Specimen Collection and Handling

Collect specimen using clear cellophane tape (not Magic or frosted tape).

Collect specimen as follows:

Obtain specimen in the early a.m. before rising and prior to bathing and defecation.

1. Separate the buttocks and press the sticky side of the tape against several areas of the perianal region. Do not push tape into feces.

2. Adhere tape to a microscope slide.

3. Label slide with patient’s name and date of birth.

4. Forward promptly at ambient (preferred) or refrigerated temperature.
