Specimen Collection and Handling

Submit only one of the following specimens:

Alcohol should NOT be used to prepare the venipuncture site. BETADINE®, or other antiseptics that do NOT contain alcohol should be used.

 

SERUM:

1. Draw blood in a serum gel tube.

2. Spin down and send 2.0 mL of serum refrigerated.

3. Label specimen appropriately (serum).

4. Indicate “serum” on request form.

 

PLASMA:

1. Draw blood in a green-top (sodium heparin) tube.

2. Spin down and send 2.0 mL of sodium heparin plasma refrigerated.

3. Label sample appropriately (plasma)
4. Indicate “plasma” on request form.

Specimen Stability Information

Specimen Type: Plasma

Refrigerated: 3 Days

Must be spun/separated within: 2 Hours

Note: Specimen storage conditions can adversely impact analyte stability. Only frozen samples should be accepted for “add-on” analysis.
