Specimen Collection and Handling

1. Aseptically swab vagina or other visibly affected site.

2. Label tube with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth or medical record number, date and time of collection, collector’s initials and specimen source.

3. Submit swab in a culture transport media tube.

To Process:

1. Send specimen at ambient temperature.

2. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

3. Specimen source is required on request form for processing.
