Culture Transport Media – Larger swab preferred; use small tip swab only if required (EYE, NASOPHARYNX, MALE URETHRA).

Specimen Collection and Handling

1. Aseptically swab endocervix (use speculum to visualize cervix) or male urethra.

2. Label tube with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth or medical record number, date and time of collection, collector’s initials and specimen source.

To Process:

1. Send at ambient temperature.

2. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

3. Specimen source is required on request form for processing.
