Useful For

The intended use of this test is in the workup of Duffy-null associated neutrophil count (DANC; formerly called benign ethnic neutropenia or constitutional neutropenia).  DANC is an inherited cause of mildly/moderately decreased neutrophil count (the Absolute Neutrophil Count (ANC) is typically >1.20 thou/uL, but it may be <1.00 thou/uL) in individuals of African descent and certain other ethnic groups and is considered a normal variant. It is not associated with increased infections, other cytopenias, or other illnesses.

Specimen Collection and Handling

1. Send whole blood at ambient temperature to MMCP Bramhall Blood Bank.

2. Tube MUST be labelled with full name of patient (Last, First [Do not use nicknames]), date of birth and /or identification number, date of collection, and initials of person drawing specimen.
