Specimen Collection and Handling

  1. Patients should not be on steroid medication.
  2. Ensure Dexamethasone 1 mg (20µg/kg) is taken orally at 11:00pm (night prior to blood draw).
  3. At around 8:00 am collect blood in either a plain, red-top or Serum Separator Tube.
  4. Spin down, separate from clot and send refrigerated.
  5. Date and time drawn must be indicated on the requisition.
