Specimen Collection and Handling
1. Swab vaginal introitus and rectum with a single swab. Do not use a speculum.
2. Place swab in a culture transport media tube.
3. If detection of any other genital pathogens is desired, use a speculum to collect an additional specimen.
4. Label tube with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth or medical record number, date and time of collection, collector’s initials and specimen source.
To Process:
1. Send at ambient temperature.
2. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
3. Specimen source is required on request form for processing.
